AWAKENING THE WHITE DRAGON
A Quiet Adventure in Arashiyama Bamboo Grove
January 21, 2024

We departed Amanohashidate on the morning of January 21, taking a very cute local train to Kyoto. It was also Yaxi’s birthday, so being together on such a sweet train felt very festive.

In Kyoto, Nogi rented a car and we drove to the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. I had wanted to come here for years, so this made me very happy that we could do it. I had heard that this magical place is always packed with people and we were all surprised that when we arrived, that there weren’t many people there. And it was even on a Sunday.

The bamboo grove is a Timeless True World and it was deeply healing to stroll through it. I felt so at home amidst the bamboo.

During our eleven days in Japan, we hadn’t had time to interact much with Japan itself. It felt like we were more in the Land of the White Dragon than the country of Japan. We thought that we would finally have two free days in Kyoto, but that was unexpectedly changed when one of our flights to Peru was rescheduled at the last minute. Now we had only one night in Kyoto and had to depart Japan a day early. This was a clear sign that we weren’t here as tourists, but as emissaries of the White Dragon.

This didn’t happen only to us. We also heard that when I-Chu was leaving Japan, she had commented that she never felt that she had been in Japan either.

And so it was. We came. We awakened the WHITE DRAGON. And we departed. But even though we didn’t see much of this beautiful country, we fell in love with so many of you.
