Our borrowed male alpaca named Phuyu is getting settled at the Heart of AN, although he hasn’t yet shown any amorous interest in any of our females. We’ll give him a few more weeks before he returns to Pedro’s herd.
Emanaku and I both came down with strong colds a few weeks ago. Even so, he managed to make new shelves for the pantry and our bathroom cabinet ~ which brings a much welcomed new level of organization. At the same time, I wrote the very long and strong April Surf Report.
Suddenly, we have gotten very busy. There are permaculture meetings, income taxes to do, special events to organize, many new Peruvian treasures to put on our AN•Mercado, plus several visitors coming in the next few weeks. And then there’s my new book which continuously calls to me….

The Arrival of sweet and gentle Phuyu ~ which means Cloud in Quechua ~ at the Heart of AN.

Here comes the advance welcoming committe of Kukuli and Asiri.
-
-
Alpacas are always very loving and friendly to new members of their herd.
-
-
Nima arrives to greet Phuyu!
-
-
Soon Nima, No’e, Asiri, Rit’i and Kukuli come to greet Phuyu while Tawani continues to eat grass. Such beautiful ALPACAS OF AN!
-
-
Now Cachorro and Manzana join the welcoming party. It was so sweet watching everyone touch noses.
-
-
Later that day, the Alpacas of AN proudly showed Phuyu the AN•Chakana.

We are just finishing the yellow flower blooming season here. This year it was combined with all the white flowers blooming at the same time. It’s was magical and gorgeous!
-
-
There are so many exquisite flowers blooming at the Heart of AN right now.

I visited everyone the following day and all the alpacas had already become friends.

March 22 was the International Day of Water. They had a special celebration here and asked us to supply some garbage cans for the event. Of course, Emanaku decided to paint AN symbols on them. As soon as he did, they transformed into sacred garbage cans of AN!

Our local Day of Water Celebration included a reinaction of a special event when a canal was built by the Incas to bring the water from the village of Huaran to the village of Huayocari.
Here is the Sapa Inca and his court. The Inca was carried in a procession around the sports field.

Prayers to Tayta Inti were made. It was quite an amazing spectacle and for some reason, seeing it brought tears to my eyes.

Last Monday, our friend Lynda came for a visit. Lynda lives in Samaipata, Bolivia and hadn’t been to the Heart of AN for a few years so she was astounded at the many changes.
-
-
Asiri and Kukuli were super cute! Alpacas often like to stand next to each other, facing opposite directions.
-
-
We love our new ramada ~ even though we haven’t yet had time to make our ceremonial First Fire in the fireplace.
-
-
The bees and butterflys at the Heart of AN love our profusion of flowers.
-
-
Our marigolds finally bloomed in our vegetable garden. They seem to love it here.
Now, we are starting to do a new planting in the garden.
-
-
Amazingly enough, our first chili plants came up! Everyone told us that it was impossible to grow chili peppers in this part of Peru, but somehow we did!

Bunches of Dill Weed and Camomile are drying outside of Kusi•Wasi.

-
The super sweet Tawani, Asiri and Nima! They are incredibly lovable and bring us much happiness!
-
-
Kukuli and Asiri are now friends with Cachorro and Manzana and often tenderly touch noses with them. It is so sweet.

A bird has discovered another bird in the side mirror of La Perla. The new bird in the mirror looks very familiar!
-
-
We don’t know if it’s in love with its reflection or perceives it as a threat. But the bird is definitely fascinated ~ perhaps obsessed ~ by the other bird.
-
-
The bird becomes so excited about the other bird that it shits all over the car door.
-
-
And then it trys to make contact! This went on for several weeks until we finally had to put a plastic bag over the mirror. Now, the bird is waiting in a nearby tree in case the other bird reappears.

A new year of Kindergarden for Alexander has begun – and with it comes a new puzzle with 100 pieces. (The one from the last school year with 30 pieces he can already do while sleeping by now 😉 )
I really like schools with required school supplies of puzzles!

We had a lovely visit with Juana and her sister Iliana (who have both grown up a lot). They brought us some new weavings for the AN•Mercado, plus we got to see Juana and Eloy’s beautiful daughter who is already walking!

The new bridge in Urubamba is steadily progressing. The two parts of the top have been connected to form an arch, but there’s still a major gap between the bridge and the river’s edge.
It feels very significant that soon there will be a totally NEW BRIDGE!
