The 30th of January brought the arrival of Chaco ~ a male alpaca that we borrowed for a month from Pedro and Cecilia’s herd. His task was to impregnate our three female alpacas. In a few weeks, he will be returning to Yanamayo and in about a year, we will see if any new crias are born here.
On February 5, our new dog Tika arrived. We had seen her photo in a notice on Facebook that said she needed a new home. We weren’t looking for another dog, but there was something in her eyes that spoke to us. We also felt that Manzana was lonely and needed a friend since we had so few visitors during the last year. An hour after Tika arrived, there was the most exquisite double rainbow here ~ a very positive sign.
Even though we had many things to do, Emanaku and I were both in a deep state of quiet. It felt like we had both expanded far beyond the physical realm. This made us feel a bit distant from all that was happening all around us. Our friend Luzclara from Chile came for a three week private retreat at AN•Wasi. She was feeling as quiet as we were and we really enjoyed having her here.

The Heart of AN in the midst of the Winds of Change!
-
-
When Emanaku and Pedro arrived at the Heart of AN on January 30th with their new passenger, our three ladies ~ No’e, Nima and Rit’i became very curious.
-
-
Here is CHACO! His adventure at the Heart of AN had just begun.
-
-
One thing that I really love about alpacas is how they lovingly welcome new members to their herd ~ often with a kiss.
-
-
With all this attention, Chaco was most excited to eat our delicious grass. Imagine, suddenly being transported to the beautiful Heart of AN, three friendly ladies waiting to get pregnant and all the grass you can eat. It wasn’t a difficult transition for handsome, but very dirty, Chaco.

-
By February 1st, Chaco quickly started doing his job of getting our females pregnant with his full dedication.

On February 5, Tika came to live with us. We had seen this photo on FB, saying that she urgently needed a new home and when we looked at her eyes, we knew that she was meant to be part of our family.
-
-
She spent her first days here exploring everything.
-
-
Manzana and Tika started getting acquainted with each other.
-
-
Tika had lived in apartments for her entire first year of life. Suddenly, in a major twist of destiny, she was transported to the Heart of AN!
-
-
One of the reasons that we wanted another dog was as a companion for Manzana who was getting a bit bored and lethargic without the stimulation of visitors here.
-
-
Here’s Manzana with a huge smile!
-
-
The Alpacas of AN came out to check out Tika. (Notice that Chaco in the background is noticeably cleaner.)
-
-
That’s when the ever vigilant Nima decided to chase Tika to show her who was the boss. Tika wasn’t prepared for this and ran for her life. Now she knows not to go too close to the alpacas!
-
-
Later that afternoon, there was the most brilliant double rainbow that we have ever seen by the Heart of AN.
-
-
The Rainbow over the Tower of AN.
-
-
This was the kind of rainbow where you simply had to stop everything and gaze at it with profound gratitude and total awe.
-
-
It felt like we were all receiving a huge blessing ~ a powerful confirmation that ALL IS WELL.
-
-
For several days, Tika was nervous and unsettled; then she finally started aligning with the energy here and calmed down.

It was time for our annual cutting of the totora reeds in our lotus-shaped ecological waste water system. Some of the totora will be used to augment the roof of the alpaca’s ramada. The other stalks have already been given away to a friend.
-
-
Part of the roof of the alpaca’s ramada had just collapsed, so Pedro repaired it and added some new totora reeds.

Last December, Craig brought us some strings of colorful pennants that we had ordered. In February we finally put them up above our vegetable garden to discourage birds from eating our veggies.

The flags make our garden feel very magical and festive!

We really love the new flags over our garden.

Our Chilean friend, Luzclara, who has been living outside Pisac, moved into AN•Wasi for three weeks of quiet retreat. We greatly enjoyed having her here.

Manzana and Cachorro pose as two Sphinx Guardians, while I visit with Luzclara.

By the middle of the month, Manzana had become a great teacher for Tika and they were good friends.
-
-
And of course, we had to have some drone shots of our newly transformed, magical vegetable garden!
-
-
The plants seem to enjoy it immensely.

It feels so right for our vegetable garden to be a place of joy and beauty.
